Adding a Power Amplifier to an RF IC Circuit

AI Thread Summary
When designing a circuit with the ADF7020 RF IC, ensuring proper impedance matching is crucial, as the power amplifier (PA) requires a 50-ohm input. The addition of the PA alters the combined impedance at the Tx/Rx node, potentially affecting both transmission and reception performance. Utilizing effective simulation tools and test equipment is essential for RF IC and PCBA design. It's important to inquire about available SPICE packages, libraries, and electromagnetic simulation software to aid in the design process. Proper preparation and tools will significantly enhance the chances of successful integration.

Hello all,

I'm trying to design a circuit that utilizes the http://www.analog.com/en/rfif-components/short-range-transceivers/adf7020/products/product.html" . What I'm worried about is getting everything to match properly; the PA requires a 50 ohm input, and after dropping it into the circuit, the combined impedance seen at the Tx/Rx node will change, throwing off both Tx and Rx.

Any suggestions as to where I might begin?

Thanks,

You really need to have good simulation tools and test equipment to work with RF IC/PCBA design. What tools do you have available? What SPICE package and libraries do you have at your disposal? Do you have any PCBA EM simulation software?

Thread 'Weird near-field phenomenon I get in my EM simulation'
I recently made a basic simulation of wire antennas and I am not sure if the near field in my simulation is modeled correctly. One of the things that worry me is the fact that sometimes I see in my simulation "movements" in the near field that seems to be faster than the speed of wave propagation I defined (the speed of light in the simulation). Specifically I see "nodes" of low amplitude in the E field that are quickly "emitted" from the antenna and then slow down as they approach the far...
Hello dear reader, a brief introduction: Some 4 years ago someone started developing health related issues, apparently due to exposure to RF & ELF related frequencies and/or fields (Magnetic). This is currently becoming known as EHS. (Electromagnetic hypersensitivity is a claimed sensitivity to electromagnetic fields, to which adverse symptoms are attributed.) She experiences a deep burning sensation throughout her entire body, leaving her in pain and exhausted after a pulse has occurred...
