Bachelors in Computer Engineering, Masters in Software Engineering?

AI Thread Summary
A college freshman majoring in Computer Engineering is considering pursuing a Master's in Software Engineering after completing their Bachelor's degree. They seek confirmation on whether their undergraduate degree allows for this transition, especially since they plan to take Software Engineering electives later in their studies. Responses indicate that it is indeed possible to pursue a Master's in Software Engineering with a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, provided the student has a solid foundation in relevant coursework. It's emphasized that maintaining good grades in computer science classes is crucial, and prospective students should review the specific prerequisites listed by their desired graduate programs. Recommendations include taking a data structures course and consulting with academic advisors to ensure alignment with career goals and to identify necessary courses for graduate program eligibility.

Im college freshman and majoring in Computer Engineering. After I get my Bachelors degree, I want to go to grad school and get my Masters in Software Engineering. Even though I got my Bachelors in Computer Engineering, can I still get my Masters in Software Engineering? I am going to take some Software Engineering classes as an elective later when I am a Junior or Senior. So is this possible? Or would I have to get my Masters in Computer Engineering? Thanks in advance.

Sure. The strong software engineering background will help, but most schools will probably be happy if you've gotten decent grades in your CS classes. Just make sure you've taken the courses they require - most everybody posts it somewhere on their website.

I got an A in C++ programming. Thats the only CS course I have taken. That is something I have to look at to see which classes I would need prior to qualifying for a Masters in Software Engineering.

I'd recommend taking a data structures course. If you have other electives to "burn", you could talk to an advisor in your department and/or the CS department to discuss which courses would benefit your major (and career goals).

I am required to take that course either Summer or Fall. Reason fall is because I do not know as of now if they would it during the summer. Also, that is not a bad idea about talking to my advisor about my goals, he could guide me to the right direction. Thanks.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
