AI Thread Summary
To prevent tearing of a canvas shelf by a stepper exercise machine, placing a thin metal plate, such as 1/8th inch thick aluminum, under the legs can effectively distribute the weight. Doubling the thickness of the canvas may also provide additional support. Concerns were raised about the cyclical loading from the machine potentially damaging the canvas over time. It was suggested that the shelf is likely intended for storage, implying the machine should be moved to a solid floor for use. Proper weight distribution and material choice are crucial for maintaining the integrity of the canvas shelf.

I have a stepper exercise machine that stands on four legs and I would like to place this machine on a shelf made of canvas cloth ( the whole wardrobe is made of canvas ). The problem is I think the shelf would tear where the four legs are. So I would like to ask if there is any way I could distribute the weight of the four legs evenly over the whole floor of the canvas shelf?
Thanks.

No.

Just put a plate of thin metal, say 1/8th inch thick aluminum the size of the whole machine and put it under the legs. That should spread out the force enough to not rip the canvas. Also think about doubling up the thickness of the canvas.

Why do you want to do such a thing anyway? Is this a size constriction of the machine taking up too much floor space?

Sounds a bit dangerous. The cyclical loading of the stepper would seem like it would wear out the canvas no matter what...

The canvas shelf is just for storage, right? Am I correct in assuming you will take the machine off the shelf and put it on a solid floor for use.

Thread 'I need a concave mirror with a focal length length of 150 feet'
I need to cut down a 3 year old dead tree from top down so tree causes no damage with small pieces falling. I need a mirror with a focal length of 150 ft. 12" diameter to 36" diameter will work good but I can't think of any easy way to build it. Nothing like this for sale on Ebay. I have a 30" Fresnel lens that I use to burn stumps it works great. Tree service wants $2000.
Hi all, i have some questions about the tesla turbine: is a tesla turbine more efficient than a steam engine or a stirling engine ? about the discs of the tesla turbine warping because of the high speed rotations; does running the engine on a lower speed solve that or will the discs warp anyway after time ? what is the difference in efficiency between the tesla turbine running at high speed and running it at a lower speed ( as fast as possible but low enough to not warp de discs) and: i...
