So my phone Android screen keeps making 180 turns despite disabling "Landscape" mode. Other possible culprits I can think are gyroscope or accelerators that have overly-sensitive responses. Or maybe some app permissions are overriding the landscape mode? Maaybe some devs like @DaveC426913 or @jack action , or anyone else can suggest a way of disabling the auto 180 flip? Annoying to watch a video, do anything in the phone and have it flip for no apparent reason.
Check you device's setting about Screen Rotation. Is turned on or is turned off?

Thing is there may be internal permissions at the app level, that may override the non-landscape option, or accelerometers, gyroscopes, etc. I think it goes beyond the landscape setting. Edit: based on my cursory research.

I've heard recommendations that one should walk at least 10,000 steps per day. Maybe my calculations are wrong, but at a brisk pace, say 4-5 miles/hr, for someone of average height: 5'9"-5'10"( re: length of step), that would take at least 3 hours . Who can devote that much time to walking on a work day?

Try performing a few measurements, rethink this, and recalculate. I really mean that. Fairly brief but precise activity, and a small mathematical practical adventure, which you may be interested in testing of the results.

I was being lazy , hoping someone would have already done them Edit. at some point. I found out the rule of thumb of 0.82 x height, giving us here 56.2" . Then, (10,000)(56.2")/12=562000/12=~47,000 feet. There are approx Edit: ( per Symbolipoint) 5,280 ft in a mile. 47,000/(5280)~8.9 miles. So that's the distance total . At 4.5 miles per hour, that's a little more than 2 hours. Still a considerable amount of time, though I doubt few will do it nonstop.

I walk slightly over 2000 steps per mile at 120 steps per minute. That's about 17 minutes per mile. Normal walking around is 1500 to 2000 steps per day, so a goal of 10,000 steps per day would require a walk of slightly over 4 miles, or slightly more than one hour.

Only a few years ago, my easy walk pace was 15 minutes per mile. Old age decrepitude is slowly winning.

Who is Edith?
Have you either remembered correctly OR looked for the value how many feet in one mile? (5280)

So I answered the unit conversion fact but you'll have to answer the other question.

But whatever, I only suggest trying some few precise steps to start your measurements. NOT going a full entire mile. Then use proportion to do the calculations.

This is for a stride length. A step length is half of that:

Kind of weird that I was looking at my mom's walking data and the daily ratio of distance walked to number of steps was essentially constant, not deviating by more than 0.05 or so from the average.

Related: Dropped by a lawyer's office for an offered free consultation. Then I heard her talk about the need for a "Half a David", intended to mean "Affidavit". I walked out, excusing myself.

I'll never understand people who abandon refridgerated food in the grocery store. Dumping multiple packages of expensive meat in the bread section isn't a mistake or forgetfulness.

We are getting snow in the DC metro area as expected today. I am purposely not shoveling it right away because it is being followed by sleet and freezing rain. It will be easier to clear after it stops so that I won't have to work at clearing ice from the pavement. So of course one of my helpful neighbors decided to clear a path on the sidewalk down to the pavement that I had to go out and cover back over. :rolleyes:

In grad school, I used a network to communicate from a DEC 8650/8800 computer cluster in the univerity's engineering department to a computer at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). As I recall, it involved a series of interconnected networks. UTSPAN and UTADNX were two connections. I don't recall the others. Each part was separated by a colon (:) or possibly double colon (::). I'd upload in input fiel then download the results. The codes (RAMP/RAMPX and BLIMPJ) were run at MSFC.

Reacting and Multi-Phase (RAMP) code and Boundary Layer Impingement (BLIMPJ) code
I recall a PLIMP code = Plume Impingement Code. That was 40+ years ago. The network addresses are probably in my notes somewhere.

That brings back long-archived memories! I think I had ids on BITNET and JANET at least. I guess my ids must have expired after I left the Gothenburg Universities' Computing Centre in 1987 to join IBM.
