AI Thread Summary
When using a TI-89 calculator to derive expressions, users may encounter unexpected decimal outputs instead of the expected algebraic results. In this case, deriving the function d(x^2 + 4x - 10, x) resulted in a decimal value of 5.27 instead of the correct derivative, 2x + 4. Changing the calculator's mode to exact, approximate, or auto did not resolve the issue. However, it was discovered that a value (0.635) was stored as the variable x, which affected the output. Clearing stored variables can help return to the correct algebraic form of the derivative.

Homework Statement

Recently got a ti-89 and when I use it to derive for example d(x^2+4x-10, x)
I get a decimal, 5.27 instead of getting 2x+4.

The Attempt at a Solution

I tried changing the mode to exact, approx, and auto. All give the same answer.
I tried pressing the diamond button before ENTER, only in the exact mode it gave me a fraction.

Press 2nd, F1 (to get to F6), then "Clear a-z".

Apparently, you have the value of .635 stored as x. :-p

Yay 2x+4!
Haha thanks.

Thread 'Urgent: Physically repair - or bypass - power button on Asus laptop'
Asus Vivobook S14 flip. The power button is wrecked. Unable to turn it on AT ALL. We can get into how and why it got wrecked later, but suffice to say a kitchen knife was involved: These buttons do want to NOT come off, not like other lappies, where they can snap in and out. And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
