When should I start working on my Master degree and PhD

AI Thread Summary
Pursuing a master's degree can significantly increase salary potential for mechanical engineers, especially after gaining work experience. Many recommend accumulating about five years of industry experience before returning to school for further education. A PhD is generally more beneficial for those aiming for academic positions or research careers, rather than for salary enhancement. While a master's degree is likely to yield a pay increase, a PhD may not have a substantial impact on earnings. Ultimately, the decision should align with career goals and aspirations in the engineering field.

Hello, I am currently doing a coop with a nuclear power company as a mechanical engineer. I was wondering if it is worth it to keep going with my education as far as a masters degree then phd, or will it not make a difference in pay?

get an experience first and then do your Master. (and yes the Master will raise your salary).
like 5 years of work experience and then go back to school.
get a PhD if you want to go into the academic field like being a professor but about the paying thing ,a PhD won't make a big difference.

Getting a master's degree can help increase your pay. Getting a PhD may or may not but that is a whole different animal that you should only do if you want a career in research.

I'm trying to decide what size and type of galvanized steel I need for 2 cantilever extensions. The cantilever is 5 ft. The space between the two cantilever arms is a 17 ft Gap the center 7 ft of the 17 ft Gap we'll need to Bear approximately 17,000 lb spread evenly from the front of the cantilever to the back of the cantilever over 5 ft. I will put support beams across these cantilever arms to support the load evenly
Thread 'What's the most likely cause for this carbon seal crack?'
We have a molded carbon graphite seal that is used in an inline axial piston, variable displacement hydraulic pump. One of our customers reported that, when using the “A” parts in the past, they only needed to replace them due to normal wear. However, after switching to our parts, the replacement cycle seems to be much shorter due to “broken” or “cracked” failures. This issue was identified after hydraulic fluid leakage was observed. According to their records, the same problem has occurred...
