Which Load Cell Can Measure 0.1g Changes in 5kg?

AI Thread Summary
A project requires a load cell that can measure weight changes of 0.1g within a 3-5kg range for a corrosion sensor test rig. Finding a load cell with such high resolution at an affordable price is considered unlikely. An alternative suggestion is to counterbalance the dead weight using a spring or balance beam, which would allow for measuring smaller unbalanced forces. This approach would involve careful design to minimize friction and protect the device from shocks. Overall, achieving the desired measurement accuracy may necessitate innovative engineering solutions rather than relying solely on commercially available load cells.

Hey everybody!

I am currently doing a project whereby I have to build a test rig for a certain corrosion sensor. As part of this rig, I have to incorporate a real time weighing mechanism to determine the weight loss of the specimen during corrosion, and log it in a PC.

Hence, I am currently looking for a load cell that is capable of accommodating a dead weight (sensor + speciment) of between 3-5kgs. However, I still require the load cell to be able to detect a weight change of 0.1g. Does anybody know of such a load cell available? If not, does anybody have any other ideas how I can go about doing this.

Thanks!

I thknk the chances of finding a load cell with a resolution of 0.1g in 5kg, or 1 part of 50,000, are about zilch (at least, at a price you are likely to be able to afford).

One idea would be to counterbalance most of the dead weight. You could suspend the completel device from a spring, or design a balance beam with a counterweight. You would have to be careful about friction and protect the complete device from shocks, but buying or making a load cell to weigh a resultant unbalanced force of say 10g to an accuracy of 0.1g would be a much more feasible proposition.

I'm trying to decide what size and type of galvanized steel I need for 2 cantilever extensions. The cantilever is 5 ft. The space between the two cantilever arms is a 17 ft Gap the center 7 ft of the 17 ft Gap we'll need to Bear approximately 17,000 lb spread evenly from the front of the cantilever to the back of the cantilever over 5 ft. I will put support beams across these cantilever arms to support the load evenly
Thread 'What's the most likely cause for this carbon seal crack?'
We have a molded carbon graphite seal that is used in an inline axial piston, variable displacement hydraulic pump. One of our customers reported that, when using the “A” parts in the past, they only needed to replace them due to normal wear. However, after switching to our parts, the replacement cycle seems to be much shorter due to “broken” or “cracked” failures. This issue was identified after hydraulic fluid leakage was observed. According to their records, the same problem has occurred...
