Chemical Process Flow Diagram Software

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around finding free software for creating chemical process flow diagrams, specifically those that include symbols for components like distillation columns and heat exchangers. While some participants suggest using MS Paint, they recommend MS Visio as a more effective tool, noting its widespread use in educational settings for such diagrams. There is acknowledgment of the existence of software for electrical engineering simulations, but a lack of equivalent options for chemical processes. Some users mention that while there are various software options available, most are not free, although demo versions with trial periods may be accessible. One specific software mentioned is Chempute, which could be worth exploring.

Hello,

Does anyone know of any free software that will allow me to easily create chemical process flow diagrams, that have all the symbols for various components (distillation columns, heat exchangers, etc)?

Thank you

It'd be painful, but MS Paint could do it. I'd really suggest getting a hold of MS Visio.

I know there are programs that electrical engineers use to simulate circuits, I wonder why an analog for chemical processes doesn't exist?

There are plenty of options, but none that I know of are free. I exclusively used Visio throughout school for making process flow diagrams.

Some demo version are available with trail period, so that you can get your work done. check out in chempute software.
