Original ideas for a physics experiment

AI Thread Summary
Ideas for first-year physics experiments should utilize common household items or standard lab equipment. Suggestions include creating a simple flamethrower to analyze the trajectory of flames, which combines practical application with theoretical calculations. Other potential experiments could focus on mechanics, such as pendulum motion or projectile motion using everyday objects. The goal is to engage with fundamental physics concepts while ensuring safety and feasibility. Innovative and accessible experiments can enhance understanding of physics principles.

I'm looking for ideas for an experiment that we get to choose ourselves. It should be at the level of a first year physics student and use equipment that is either found at home or that any physics department should have.

Does anyone have some cool ideas? I'm finding it hard to think of anything.

Build a flamethrower...... and then calculate the trajectory of the flames .

That would be pretty interesting...

So I know that electrons are fundamental, there's no 'material' that makes them up, it's like talking about a colour itself rather than a car or a flower. Now protons and neutrons and quarks and whatever other stuff is there fundamentally, I want someone to kind of teach me these, I have a lot of questions that books might not give the answer in the way I understand. Thanks
