The probe passes over an atom that is 3.20×10^2 nm "tall." By what factor does the tunneling current increase?
how does contact resistance and sprearding resistance gets in eliminated in four probe technique for measuring resistivity in comparison to two probe technique where we encounter these resistances?

“Teaching aids”
The moderators and Gurus might want some recent “teaching aids”.
Perhaps you will want to put some of these into a "sticky"
The CERN site is producing some very good “teaching aids”. If you can, look at the ppt presentation, since it has animations.

Should we send an interstellar (unmanned) probe to Alpha Centauri? Would it be much more expensive than a manned mission to Mars?
According to Wikipedia, velocities as high as 0.10c are possible with hydrogen bombs. That means that ~40 years flight time to the nearest star would be possible...
Hi,
I am new to four point probe measurements and I have a question.
I've deposited 500 nm of Ni on glass substrate to check out the equipment we bought. When I measured its sheet resistance the display showed 13.56 mohm/sqare for 5 mA current.
To check out the measurement I multiplied...
Am I right in assuming that Gravity Probe B has proved that the rotation of the Earth (@~465metres /sec.) 'swirls' space-time in the same sort of way that a rotating ball will swirl a fluid?
I ask because if this is the case, then the forward motion of the Earth (@~360km/sec.) must also...

I am building an automatic acid-base titrator for my senior project. I am using a Freescale s12ub microcontroller. For this project, I will need to interface a pH probe with the CMOS input on a microcontroller. The potential across the probe is supposedly proportional to pH. (-0.06 volt/pH...

Hey,
Sorry this is probably in the wrong section but I couldn't think of a more appropriate one. Anyway, I've spent ages on the net looking for a really simple hall probe - like one which I used back in school measuring a max of upto 1.5 - 2 tesla, and I just cannot seem to find any school...

How far from Earth must a space probe be along a line toward the Sun so that the Sun's gravitational pull on the probe balances the Earth's pull?

Hi, I'm kinda lost on these 2 problems.

We can probe the isotropy of the universe by observing the universe just from a single place. However, as I know, that is not true for homogeneity.
What type of expriments we can carry out on ground or spcae, for probing the homogeneity of the universe.

The Gravity Probe B satellite has placed four (over redundant) gyroscopes in low polar Earth orbit to primarily test two predictions of General Relativity.
The first effect being tested is (for the GP-B polar orbit) a N-S geodetic precession, caused by the amount a gyro 'leans' over into the...

I was looking at some web sites about the Gravity Probe B. Some show the spin axes of the gyroscopes oriented perpendicular to the Earth or else in the direction of movement of the satelite. Wouldn't these orientations cause lots of precession? I'd expect the gyroscopes' axes of rotation to...
[FONT=Century Gothic]to calibrate a hall probe, i know we have to generate a known magnetic filed strength (B)...but how??

For a planning exercise i have to calibrate a hall probe to measure the magnetic flux density mid-way between opposite poles of two permanent bar magnets.
anyone know how to calibrate a hall probe so that i can do this experiment?
Where could I find out how a Hall probe works? I have got a book in mind called Introduction to electronics by Theodore Korneff but am not sure how useful it will be. I have searched the web but cannot find a description of its working.

Gravity probe B is designed to detect the distortion of space (both the linear compression and lateral shear of the vacuum) that the mass of the Earth produces by it's presence in space and it's rotation on it's axis. The hope is that this might be seen in the anticipated deflection of very...
After three months in orbit, following its launch on 20 April, Gravity Probe B has now entered its science phase. This success comes after about 40 years of a long saga of planning and construction and three unsuccessful cancellations by NASA in ’89, ’93, and ‘95.
The project went through...

In GPB's experimental conditions, a negligible amount of precession takes place.
So in terms of rotational inertia, why does the spin axis of a gyroscopes remain pointing in the same direction?
Also, why would changes in space-time cause the axis to change?
Thanks
