Automobile velocity on the bridge

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on calculating the velocity of a 1000kg automobile at the top of a bridge with a curvature radius of 50m, given an initial speed of 54km/h. The calculation suggests that the maximum speed at the bridge apex could exceed the initial speed, raising questions about the conditions of the scenario. Participants note that crucial information, such as the height of the bridge and whether the car is in neutral, is missing, making the problem unsolvable as presented. The consensus is that the problem may be incorrectly formulated due to insufficient data. Overall, the conversation highlights the need for complete information in physics problems to reach accurate conclusions.

If this solution is correct, could you please explain to me how can this velocity be higher than the initial speed of the automobile?

Hi Juraj S. :welcome:

What you have calculated is the maximum speed (at the bridge apex) before the car's wheels would lose contact with the road.

How high is the bridge?

Hint: is the car's gear stick in "neutral" for all the time the car is on the bridge?

The question makes no sense, there is clearly not enough information. Even if we assume the car is in neutral, we've no way to determine the height of the bridge. Is this the whole problem, exactly as given to you?

That is exactly what I thought, that is why the solution I provided is the most I could come up with, so I guess the problem is incorrectly given because the info I provided is all I have available.

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
