AI Thread Summary
To calculate the frequency of sound emitted by bats with a wavelength of 3.5mm, it is necessary to convert the wavelength to meters, resulting in 0.0035m. The speed of sound in air at 30 degrees Celsius is calculated as 349.4 m/s. Using the formula V = wavelength * frequency, the frequency is determined to be approximately 99829.6 Hz. Converting the wavelength is essential for accurate calculations. The discussion confirms that conversion to meters is required for proper frequency determination.

Homework Statement

The sound emitted by bats has a wavelength of 3.5mm. What is the sound's frequency in air? Assume that the bat is flying through air with a temperature of 30 degrees C.

Homework Equations

V=331.4 + 0.6*Temp.C
V=wavelength*frequency

The Attempt at a Solution

V= 331.4 + 0.6(30)
V=349.4m/s

V=wavelength*frequency

349.7m/s=0.0035*f
f=99829.6hz

The only thing I'm not sure about is did I need to change the 3.5mm to .0035m?

Yes you do.

thank you :)

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
