What is the Average Flow Rate in a Room with Circular Ducts?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around calculating the average flow rate of air in a room with specific dimensions and circular ducts. The room measures 3.5m by 4.5m by 6.0m, and the ducts have a diameter of 0.30m, requiring the air to be exchanged every 12 minutes. Participants clarify that the volume of the room can be found using the formula for volume (width times length times height). After determining the volume, the conversion to cubic meters per second is necessary for flow rate calculations. The discussion concludes with a successful resolution of the problem, highlighting the importance of understanding volume and flow rate in HVAC systems.

Homework Statement

A room measures 3.5m by 4.5m by 6.0m. If the heating and air conditioning ducts to and from the room are circular with diameter of 0.30m and all the air in the room is to be exchanged every 12 min, (a) what is the average flow rate ?

Homework Equations

A1*V1=A2*V2

The Attempt at a Solution

I can find the area of the conditioning duct. I am not sure how to find the velocity of the air or the area of the room. Is it saying the room is a traingle shape? HELP

It is simpler than that. The rate IS the volume of the whole room every 12 minutes.

Do you know how to calculate the volume?
Width times length times height.

Thankyou so much montoyas7940! I figured it out thanks to your help. I am so happy! I found the volume of the room by what you said and then I just converted it to meters cubed per second because it was meters cubed per 12minutes.

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
