Other Find Physics Internships: Tips & Advice for Success

AI Thread Summary
To secure summer internships in physics, it's essential to apply to as many Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) as possible, considering the need for letters of recommendation. SULI internships are also a valuable option, with applications typically opening in mid-October and closing around January 10th. Many REUs begin accepting applications in early December, with deadlines often in mid-February. It's beneficial to compile a list of potential internships based on personal interests. Actively seeking out new opportunities and staying organized will enhance the chances of landing a suitable internship.

I'm trying to think ahead and start looking for summer internships, I'll be done with my sophomore year of physics by then. I know there are a lot out there, I know of a few, have stumbled on a few, how do I find more? I know that getting as much experience as possible is necessary for my future. I'm reading through the similar discussions (old threads), but I'm looking for anything new also. Any advice on finding, landing and making the most out of physics internships, thanks!

Apply to all the REUs that you can (the limiting factor will likely be how much you want to bug people for letters of recommendation). Also, consider SULI internships (and Lee Teng and such, if you qualify!).

thank you, that's my plan. After posting this I found a list of a bunch that I read through looking for my interests so now I have a list of 30! I'll look up what you posted.

Do you know when they start accepting applications? All the pages I am finding were for last year. Looks like most stop in mid february but I'm not sure when they'll start.

The SULI application opens up in mid-October (I think) and ends on January 10th generally. For REUs, I applied for a bunch during early December one year, so definitely by then.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
