Question On Effects of Changing Criteria Of Pulleys

AI Thread Summary
Increasing the included angle of the pulley groove can enhance the maximum power transmitted by improving belt grip and reducing slippage. When the load torque increases while maintaining constant speed, the tension in the tight side of the belt will rise, while the slack side tension will decrease, resulting in a net increase in power transmitted. The discussion emphasizes the need for clear problem formulation and understanding of the underlying mechanics rather than just applying equations. Participants are encouraged to articulate their questions more clearly to facilitate better assistance. Understanding the theoretical implications of these changes is crucial for effective problem-solving in pulley systems.

1.What would be the effect of the following factor on the maximum power that can be transmitted. (give reasons for your answers)
Increasing the included angle of the pulley groove.

2. What would be the effect on the following if the load torque is increased and the speed maintains constant?
The tension in the tight side of the belt
The tension in the slack side of the belt
The power transmitted

I can plug different parts into equations and have gathered that increasing the torque will make both sides of the belt tighter and increase the maximum power transmitted however I can't explain this?

Hi Joe, welcome to PF :)

Please read back your post and put yourself in a helper's position: there's nothing to indicate what this is all about.
Pick up the template once more and try to compose a self-sufficient problem formulation, ... etcetera.
I'll be glad to help out, but give use a chance ! We're not telepathy masters, just simple scientists!

Basically there is a motor driving a pulley linked to another pulley via a v belt. And then that is just asking in theory what effect each has on those parts, there are no formulas to work out it is the actual reasoning behind it of which I don't understand.
They are all self standing questions of which that is all that is given, it's asking for a written answer in theory.
