Other Weird question: IB Physics EE ideas

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on selecting a topic for an Extended Essay in HL IB Physics, with a focus on stability in structures or renewable energy. One participant suggests prioritizing stability in structures, particularly regarding the protection of homes and small businesses from extreme weather events like tornadoes and hurricanes, noting a lack of existing research in this area. Another participant expresses interest in the stability of structures but is struggling to identify feasible experiments that would yield sufficient data without being overly complex. The conversation emphasizes the need for innovative and practical experimental ideas related to structural stability.

Hi guys,
I am currently doing HL IB Physics and i chose to do my Extended Essay on physics as well but i am having trouble to figure out my topic and what my question can be. I was thinking of something around the area of stability in structures or renewable energy. But i have no idea what exactly. Do you have any ideas in order to help me please. I would really appreciate if you could share your ideas with me.
Thanks

Renewable energy is being written about a lot, so I would tend to think more about the "stability of structures" subject. Certainly there has been a lot of work done on the physical stability of large buildings, but I haven't seen much work yet on how to protect homes and small businesses from tornadoes, hurricanes and floods. I think you could write a very good paper about that subject, if you did enough research and work.

I have looked into stability of structures but i can't think of any experiments that would provide me with enough sufficient data and wouldn't be too difficult and complicated to perform. Do you have any ideas about what experiment i could do? :D

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
