Interesting. I played PLAIN here. CLAIM got severely punished by the fact that it was listed twice in my set of possible solutions for some reason.

My program suggested CLAMP. Looking through the possible answers, I found that CLAIM would be close enough and decided to wing it.

I was losing the P for three words — PIZZA, PLAID, and PLAIN — but the last two had the same middle letter arrangement as CLAIM. Plus, I could easily identify two words with an M — MAFIA, MANIC — and three others with a C — CABIN, CACTI, CAVIL (and MANIC again). I contemplated PLAIN for a while, but I did not find [intuitively] the P and the N to be as helpful.

Information wise, they were equivalent. Had I not has a duplicate in the list their score would have been tied

I made a minor update to my sheet. After entering the result of the day and removing the solution from the available word list, the sheet will now first rank the remaining words based upon how many times its letters appear among the remaining words (only counting unique letters to avoid things like MELEE ...). It then computes the expected remaining entropy for using the top 8 ones as seed and reports the results. This will tell me if there is ever a need to switch seed because the word pool has changed.

Here is the current list:

ARISE is still going strong, but SANER has unexpectedly made some headway and is now surpassing AROSE.

I evaluate them every day, and it is in that order most of the time. AROSE very rarely surpasses SANER. Here is my current list (before today's puzzle), long enough to cover all your top 8 (starred):

Also getting it with three guesses if you are using aids is not so impressive anymore.
In the last 7 games you played, you only found one in 3 guesses. Today, three people are getting it in 2, while you have it in 5. Are you impressed now?

Reminds me of my ”golden week” back at the end of last year. Two back-to-back 2s in the same week. It was crazy (and before the spreadsheet!)
