Find equivalent capacitance in a network with parallels and series

AI Thread Summary
The equivalent capacitance of a network can be calculated using specific formulas for capacitors in parallel and series. For capacitors in parallel, the total capacitance is the sum of individual capacitances, while for those in series, the reciprocal of the total capacitance is the sum of the reciprocals of individual capacitances. The discussion raises a question about the configuration of capacitors C2 through C5, suggesting a need for clarification on their arrangement. Understanding the correct setup is crucial for accurately determining the equivalent capacitance. Proper identification of parallel and series connections is essential for solving these types of problems.

What is the equivalent capacitance of the network.

Parallel: C1 + C2 + C3 + Cn = Ceq

Series: 1/C1 + 1/C2 + 1/Cn = 1/Ceq

I added C2 C3 C4 and C5 as parallel and then added this to C1 as a series.

What leads you to believe that all of those capacitors, C2 through C5, are in parallel?

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
