What Happens to a CRO Screen When Switching Between AC, GND, and DC Modes?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the functionality of the AC-GND-DC switch on a CRO (cathode ray oscilloscope) and its effects when connected to a dry cell. When the switch is set to AC, the display will show the AC signal, while switching to GND will result in a straight line on the x-axis, indicating no signal. Users emphasize the importance of hands-on experimentation to understand oscilloscope operations effectively. There is a suggestion to post questions in the appropriate "homework help" section for better guidance. Overall, practical experience is deemed essential for mastering oscilloscope use.

what is the use of AC-GND-DC switch??

wt will happen on the screen if a dry cell is connected to the CRO with AC-GND-DC button switched to AC?? then wt will happen if GND is on??

Are we being asked your assignment questions?

Here's the deal with an oscilloscope - you simple go to one and TRY IT! Learning how an oscilloscope work from a piece of paper is like learning how to ride a bicycle simply by reading an instruction manual. It can't be done.

Look at what you're being asked, and go try it for yourself on a scope.

of course I've tried all the questions on the work sheet... but i missed this two! and now I'm at home and i simply can't sneak back to sch and steal the CRO and do the experiment again! >< i guess there'll be no change when AC is on and the trace'lll become a straight line lying on the x-axis when GND's on... hope that's right??

May I also suggest that you post this in the appropriate section of PF? We do have a "homework help" section, which this thing qualifies.

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
TL;DR Summary: I came across this question from a Sri Lankan A-level textbook. Question - An ice cube with a length of 10 cm is immersed in water at 0 °C. An observer observes the ice cube from the water, and it seems to be 7.75 cm long. If the refractive index of water is 4/3, find the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. I could not understand how the apparent height of the ice cube in the water depends on the height of the ice cube immersed in the water. Does anyone have an...
