AI Thread Summary
The discussion focuses on simulating multiphase flow through a porous medium using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method, specifically with n-heptane as the liquid phase and a complex vapor phase consisting of 25 species and 34 reactions. The user is encountering issues with low temperature results and flame positioning relative to the porous medium, raising concerns about evaporation and condensation frequencies, particularly the evaporation frequency set at 30. They describe a setup involving a capillary tube with specific inlet and outlet conditions, but are facing divergence errors in pressure coupling. Suggestions include simplifying the simulation to focus solely on the heptane flame and reaching out to ANSYS for technical support. The user expresses confusion about the evaporation frequency term and appreciates the assistance provided.

I am simulating flow through porous medium with VOF method and species transport. For phase change i have Lee Model, and i have no idea about the evaporation frequency and condensation frequency
Second I am using the evaporation frequency as 30. The liquid is n-heptane while for vapour phase i have 25 species and 34 reaction.
I am getting results but the temperature is very lower and second my flame is away from the porous medium

I suspect that this is such a hyperfocused question that the odds of anyone here being familiar with the topic are fairly slim.

Sir Let me explain.
I have a capillary tube with ID 0.2 mm. At inlet i give mass flux with liquid phase. At the exit of the capillary tube i define a region where i patch temperature. I am getting divergence error in pressure coupling etc.
My Solver setting as follow
VOF
Steady
Surface Tension
Species Transport Volumetric
Simple
URF are 0.2 to 0.3

what solver are you using? If it is from ANSYS you can contact them through the customer portal and ask their advice.

Just getting a solution for a single phase heptane flame will be a challenge, let alone simulating it together with the entire evaporation of the fuel in a porous medium. These multiphysics problems are usually spatially separated. Do you really need to simulate them inside a single simulation? Have you tried simulating only the heptane flame? Even for a skeleton mechanism like the one you are using, such a simulation can take quite some time.

Well thanks for reply.
I am using VOF with two phase. The primary phase is my mixture imported from chemkin while my secondary phase is heptane liquid. for mass thransfer mechanism i am using lee model, but evaporation frequency is confusing term. I really appreciate your help.

How did you find PF?: Via Google search Hi, I have a vessel I 3D printed to investigate single bubble rise. The vessel has a 4 mm gap separated by acrylic panels. This is essentially my viewing chamber where I can record the bubble motion. The vessel is open to atmosphere. The bubble generation mechanism is composed of a syringe pump and glass capillary tube (Internal Diameter of 0.45 mm). I connect a 1/4” air line hose from the syringe to the capillary The bubble is formed at the tip...
Thread 'Physics of Stretch: What pressure does a band apply on a cylinder?'
Scenario 1 (figure 1) A continuous loop of elastic material is stretched around two metal bars. The top bar is attached to a load cell that reads force. The lower bar can be moved downwards to stretch the elastic material. The lower bar is moved downwards until the two bars are 1190mm apart, stretching the elastic material. The bars are 5mm thick, so the total internal loop length is 1200mm (1190mm + 5mm + 5mm). At this level of stretch, the load cell reads 45N tensile force. Key numbers...
I'd like to create a thread with links to 3-D Printer resources, including printers and software package suggestions. My motivations are selfish, as I have a 3-D printed project that I'm working on, and I'd like to buy a simple printer and use low cost software to make the first prototype. There are some previous threads about 3-D printing like this: https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/are-3d-printers-easy-to-use-yet.917489/ but none that address the overall topic (unless I've missed...
