Is an Unsaturated Hydrocarbon Converted to Saturated When Reacted with Hydrogen?

AI Thread Summary
An unsaturated hydrocarbon, characterized by C=C double bonds, is not an alkane, which is a saturated hydrocarbon. When an unsaturated hydrocarbon reacts with hydrogen, it converts into a saturated hydrocarbon. The focus should be on the resulting product, which confirms that the answer should be C. This understanding is crucial for solving the problem correctly. The discussion emphasizes the importance of recognizing the transformation from unsaturated to saturated during the reaction.

Homework Equations

The Attempt at a Solution

C=C double bonds means that it is not an Alkane because an Alkane is saturated hydrocarbon. So the answer should be from A, B or C.

Which compound do you refer to - starting hydrocarbon, or the resulting hydrocarbon?

Then you are right, but in no way it moves you ahead. Concentrate on the product - what do you know about it? (Or: what do you expect it to be?)

When an unsaturated hydrocarbon reacts with hydrogen, does it forms a saturated hydrocarbon? If this is the case, the the answer should be C.

And that's the correct approach to the problem.

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
