Homework Statement



A busy waitress slides a plate of apples along a counter to a hungry customer sitting near the end of the counter. The customer is not paying attention, and the plate falls to the ground horizontally at .84m/s. The counter is 1.34m high.

Find time it took for plate to fall.
Find how far it fell from the counter (delta x)
find horizontal and vertical components of velocity before it hits the ground

The Attempt at a Solution



i found time which i think is .52s
and since vx is constant the horizontal component is .84
and i believe the vertical is 5.12 by (.52)*(9.8)

please help on everything else!

so how fast was the projectile moving horizontally the entire time it was in the air?
and
how much time did the projectile spend in the air?

I believe you got answers for both of these. So if you know how fast it was going horizontally, and you know how long it was going that fast horizontally, then you can figure out how far (distance) the projectile went horizontally.

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
