How is benzyl alcohol synthesized?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the synthesis of benzyl alcohol, with a request for detailed instructions and resources. A key point raised is the importance of identifying the starting material, as there are multiple methods to synthesize benzyl alcohol depending on the precursor used. One suggested method is to start with benzaldehyde and reduce it, highlighting that various reduction techniques are available. Participants emphasize the need to consult texts and online resources for comprehensive guidance on the synthesis process.

From what starting material? There are dozens of ways to make it depending on what you want to start with.

start from benzaldehyde

Just reduce it, there are several methods to do so, try finding it in your text, there should be plenty of sources on the web also.

I want to test a humidity sensor with one or more saturated salt solutions. The table salt that I have on hand contains one of two anticaking agents, calcium silicate or sodium aluminosilicate. Will the presence of either of these additives (or iodine for that matter) significantly affect the equilibrium humidity? I searched and all the how-to-do-it guides did not address this question. One research paper I found reported that at 1.5% w/w calcium silicate increased the deliquescent point by...
