What Are Some Good Ideas for a Senior Project in Nuclear Physics?

AI Thread Summary
In the discussion about senior project ideas in nuclear physics, participants emphasize the importance of leveraging coursework in Analytical Mechanics, Electromagnetism (E&M), Modern Physics, and Nuclear Physics. Suggestions for project topics include exploring nuclear decay processes, radiation detection methods, and applications of quantum mechanics in nuclear systems. Participants recommend consulting academic advisors for tailored project ideas and suggest reviewing relevant periodicals and recent research papers in the field to identify current trends and topics of interest. The availability of university resources, such as reactors or accelerators, is highlighted as a crucial factor in project selection. Previous projects by students often involve experimental work or theoretical studies that align with faculty research interests, underscoring the importance of collaboration and mentorship in the project development process.

What are some good ideas for a senior project in nuclear physics?
So far I've taken the following courses (important ones): Analytical Mechanics, E&M, Introduction to Modern physics, Introduction to Nuclear physics.
Right now I'm enrolled in the QM course (as well as others).
I should be graduating next semester (by Fall) so I was advised to pick a senior project and begin working on it.

What periodicals do you read in the nuclear physics field? What interesting papers or articles have you read recently? Does your university have a reactor or an accelerator available? What research areas are your professors engaged in? Does your academic advisor have any suggestions?

What are some of the typical senior projects that you have seen from previous nuclear physics students?

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation. This article's date received is 2022-11-15...
