Control Systems Theory: Determing break frequency mathematically.
Hey there. I have an open loop transfer function TF = K/(t*s^2 + s) where K is known. Given a value for the break frequency (say, w_b = 10 rad/s), I have to determine the value of the time constant, t. I understand how do this with a bode plot, but not entirely sure how to proceed...- btbam91

What is the role of roll damping coefficient in aircraft performance?
Hello, I am new to Aerodynamics and am having trouble understanding what exactly the roll damping derivative is. The roll damping derivative is a measure of the change in rolling moment coefficient with respect to nondimensional roll rate and is usually negative. Does that mean a glider...- btbam91

Analyzing Incorrect Results in Binary Subtraction
I am asked to come up with two 4-bit binary numbers, that when subtracted, provide the wrong result for both the unsigned and signed cases, inspecting only the first 4 bits of the output. I have come up with numerous combination where the unsigned is correct, the signed is wrong, and vice...- btbam91

Determine number of possible combinations.
Hello everybody. I have a simple combination problem. If I am trying to generalize the number of possible combinations of a nxn block with n objects. So let's say we have n=5. If we have a 5x5 block (25 spaces) with 5 objects (assume objects cannot share spaces), what is the total...- btbam91

Schools Should I even bother applying for grad school?
Hey there, I'm at USC too. :) I will tell you this though. I did meet a guy on campus who got his undergraduate degree in history and was at USC getting his masters in Mechanical Engineering. So I would definitely say it is possible.- btbam91

Programs Skills to learn before pursuing degree in mechanical engineering
Hey there! I just finished up my undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. My recommendations are: MATLAB CAD (Solidworks, Solid Edge (free to download)) Though maybe not as feasible, hands on time with fabrication tools such as a drill press, manual mill, lathe, etc. is great...- btbam91

Electromechanical vs. Mechanical Engineering
Hello everybody. As the title suggests, I received my undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. I was accepted into a mechanical engineering master's program, specifically in the field of dynamics and control. All of a sudden, an opportunity jumps at me. I learned about a program that I...- btbam91

Testing a 100lbf Jet Engine: Blast Shields
Hey guys. As the title reads, I am a part of a research project and we will soon be testing a 100lbf jet engine. We take safety very seriously and want to take all the proper precautions in order to ensure everybody involved will come out of the experimentafely in case something goes wrong...- btbam91

Deriving equation of a ramp function graph.
LCKurtz, in trying to follow your formula, I got: f(t) = [(A/T)*t - A]*u(t) + [((A/T)*t-3A)-((A/T)*t-A)]*u(t-2T)+[(0)-((A/T)*t-3A)]*u(t-3T) Am I on the right track here?- btbam91

Deriving equation of a ramp function graph.
Hello, here is my problem. http://imageshack.us/a/img543/827/rampfunction.png I'm having a little trouble coming up with the function f(t). I have something like: f(t) = [(A/T)*t -A] + [(A/T)*(t-2T) -2A] + A*1(t-3T) Am I on the right track here? Thanks!- btbam91
