Undergrad Calculating the Distance and Parallax of a Star: A Practical Guide
A star exhibits a parallax of 0.250 arcseconds when measured from Earth. a) What is its distance (pc)? I know this uses the formula d=1/p, so i can solve this very easily b) What would its parallax be if measured from Venus’s orbit (arcseconds)? (Look up the one parameter you need to...- fatima_a

Exponential decay and half life problem
the half life of C14 is 5730 years. if a sample of C14 has a mass of 20 micrograms at time t = 0, how much is left after 2000 years? I learned from somewhere that these exponential decay and half life problems use the equation y = ab^t or y = a(1+r)^t where y = total, a = initial...- fatima_a

What do the terms LINE and SINE mean?
in this picture, there is a legend with the terms LINE and SINE in it http://i.imgur.com/IGJfm.png what do the terms LINE and SINE mean? I mean what do they stand for and what is their purpose in DNA. I have tried to look them up but it keeps going to math.- fatima_a

Is DNA altered before transcription takes place?
I though the mRNA was altered and stuff before the final protein product was made, but is DNA also altered because it's like a protection mechanism or something? thanks- fatima_a

Help! Can't Find Primary Sources for Lab Report
if you are in university then you will have to log in from your university email address and then use the library services to be able to get journal articles for free, if you are not doing that then you will not be able to access anything related to your lab report free. sometimes google scholar...- fatima_a

What is the finger print region of an IR spectrum?
hello i was just wondering what is considered to be the finger print region in an IR spectrum. Is there a range of wavenumbers which are designated as the finger print region? ...let me clarify um so a C-O bond in an ether (and maybe alcohol) is suppose to have a peak in the 1000-1200cm^-1...- fatima_a

What is the difference between neoteny and post development?
what is the difference between neoteny and post development according to my lecture neoteny = early maturation of gonads in larva that then stops growing and never becomes an adult post development = onset of a developmental process is delayed relative to reproductive maturation...- fatima_a

Which Statistical Test to Use for Ecology Lab Report on Bird Diversity?
so this is for my lab report for ecology. i need to have a figure showing at least 1 stat test. the hypothesis i am trying to prove is that diversity of birds will be greater in disturbed areas (like with human influence) compared to woodlot (like forest and such) from the data...- fatima_a

Finding the Normal Line for a Curve at a Given Point
find the equation of the normal line to the curve y = -3x^2 at the point (-1,-3). you have to use derivatives. i am not asking for the equation of the tangent line i know that is 6x + 3. please show all the steps. the answer is y = -1/6x - 19/6- fatima_a

Simplifying logarithmic expressions
simplify the following expression log2 4^3x-1 (2 is a subscript of log and 3x - 1 is a superscript of 4) i can rearrange this to 4log2 3x - 1, i am thinking after this it becomes 4 log3 + 4 logx, but i don't know what to do with the -1 please show all the steps and explain.- fatima_a
