Bookkeeping. There is a list of about 2300 words from which NYT chooses candidates and another list of words that have already appeared. Both lists are available on the web. The rumor is that when the NYT list runs out, that's the end of WORDLE.

To be honest, the bot's assessment for me today was that there were 6 possibilities after my first two trials, not 4 as I thought. Considering that there are about 13,000 words with 5 letters, the bot is probably using a more comprehensive list for its guesses than the NYT candidate list and that's where the extra two words came from.

Did you skip a day or more? If so, the streak starts afresh every time there is a gap because it is based on contiguous successful attempts. To me, the Win % is a more important figure than the streak. I will be going on vacation soon and the streak will be re-initialized.
