IMO taking classes is very inefficient.
I'd much go through a textbook and its exercises on my own rather than having to worry about homeworks/tests.
Do most biostats and stats PHD programs allow you test out of classes? That would be ideal...
I do really want to learn the material in the grad classes.
I just don't want to take additional coursework to satisfy the PHD requirements in case they don't transfer.
So is it worth it to take grad courses for a semester rather than graduating early, not knowing if they will transfer?
Money isn't a huge issue for me.
Thanks.
I can graduate a semester early or stay and take some grad classes.
In the later scenario I want to transfer them to a PHD program (in statistics).
However some PHD programs say transfer credits must be taken with graduate status; or they don't accept transfer credits period.
In that case...
Hi all. I'm considering being a tutor for my dept and later on taking up a TA position.
I do enjoy teaching, but it's a time commitment.
Would such teaching experiences help me in applying to grad schools?
Thanks!
I'm in my 3rd yr at a top school. I'm deciding on whether to apply for the 5 yr BS/MS program.
On one hand, it's a simple internal application and i'd be almost guaranteed into a very reputable masters program.
On the other hand, i still plan to apply to other PHD programs in my 4th yr. If...
I'm doing well in undergrad, taking it easy w/ a below average courseload. But i'll actually graduate early due to AP credits. I'll get at least an MS (in statistics maybe?), but my plan sounds unconventional after that.
I'm a prty quite person and love my peace of mind more than anything...
I'm american. This is a purely administrative issue, only about how my degree looks. I was also leaning toward the minor bc it explicitly states my EE coursework. thanks.
1. Some programs put time to completion at 4-5 years. Is it thus easier to graduate compared to other disciplines?
2. Is it time inefficient to do an MS stats one place and phd at another? Does this involve more courses than a direct phd after BS?
3. Is it more common to apply w/ MS or BS...
I'm doing applied math w/ many EE courses. I can count them either toward an honors or minor. So my options are:
1) BS applied math w/ honors
2) BS applied math
Minor EE
Which looks better if I might apply to EE grad school? Thanks all!
To anyone that did: How was your transition? What grad school and area did you choose. Thanks! I'm majoring in applied math bc I like math but don't know what I want to do.
I'm finishing my sophomore year at a top school, still undecided. I was following an engineering track, took 1st yr...
I just finished my sophomore year majoring in EE at a top 5 school. I want to get a phd involving systems modeling, probably EE signals/controls, maybe others as well. I need help deciding between 4 routes:
1) take my time and stick with EE. Problem is that I only like signals and really hate...
