This one brings back an old memory. When I was a kid, somebody gave us an old pair of cross country skis. These were (hazy memory) about 4" wide and six feet long, with simple leather straps. My first attempt at using them involved a steep hill with a bump. I went over the bump, looked down, and realized that I was two feet up and the skis had fallen off. Pretty much exactly as in the cartoon, except it was a bump rather than a real ski jump.

Funny thing is, although this stuff has a German / Austrian name, I have never seen it anywhere in Europe. We eat them with potato salad or a real bun and only mustard.
