A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or images, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. The technical term for this physical arrangement is codex (plural, codices). In the history of hand-held physical supports for extended written compositions or records, the codex replaces its predecessor, the scroll. A single sheet in a codex is a leaf and each side of a leaf is a page.
As an intellectual object, a book is prototypically a composition of such great length that it takes a considerable investment of time to compose and still considered as an investment of time to read. In a restricted sense, a book is a self-sufficient section or part of a longer composition, a usage that reflects the fact that, in antiquity, long works had to be written on several scrolls and each scroll had to be identified by the book it contained. Each part of Aristotle's Physics is called a book. In an unrestricted sense, a book is the compositional whole of which such sections, whether called books or chapters or parts, are parts.
The intellectual content in a physical book need not be a composition, nor even be called a book. Books can consist only of drawings, engravings or photographs, crossword puzzles or cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages can be left blank or can feature an abstract set of lines to support entries, such as in an account book, an appointment book, an autograph book, a notebook, a diary or a sketchbook. Some physical books are made with pages thick and sturdy enough to support other physical objects, like a scrapbook or photograph album. Books may be distributed in electronic form as ebooks and other formats.
Although in ordinary academic parlance a monograph is understood to be a specialist academic work, rather than a reference work on a scholarly subject, in library and information science monograph denotes more broadly any non-serial publication complete in one volume (book) or a finite number of volumes (even a novel like Proust's seven-volume In Search of Lost Time), in contrast to serial publications like a magazine, journal or newspaper. An avid reader or collector of books is a bibliophile or colloquially, "bookworm". A place where books are traded is a bookshop or bookstore. Books are also sold elsewhere and can be borrowed from libraries. Google has estimated that by 2010, approximately 130,000,000 titles had been published. In some wealthier nations, the sale of printed books has decreased because of the increased usage of ebooks.

I am looking for recommendations of books that teach physics, with an emphasis on solving real-world problems with code.
I find I can only really fully grasp a concept if I can actually program it and visualize it in MATLAB, change variables and see what effect that has on the results...
I have finished studying NCERT but still i am not clear with concepts. I have halliday resnick,hc verma and Feymann's lectures for physics, for chemistry i have morrison and boyd, solomon and fryles,j.d. lee. While for maths i only have hall & knight's higher algebra. What other books must i use?

It's not just in physics, it's mainly in math IME, but a lot of older books (pre-1980) for upper-division topics are usually thin. Not giant tomes like you get today. Hence I was thinking of using a lot of these older books to teach myself some things (mainly in math and classical physics...
Here's the way that every programming book teaches a language:
Teach the reader how to print "Hello, world!" to the console/browser/etc.
Tell the reader, "Don't worry what all this stuff means. It'll make sense when we get to the end of the book."
Teach the reader how to make more advanced...
I have quite a lot of classic science books, e.g. on solid state physics, chemistry which I would like to sell. I am not in a hurry. Any ideas? ( I know of some services where you enter the ISBN of a book and they offer you some money for it, but the prices are ridiculously low when you compare...
good books on superclusters and voids??
I have been searching for a good undergraduate to advanced level book on galaxy clusters , dark matter , superclusters and voids and I have yet to find any.
I have found however the scientific American library book " the dark matter and cosmic web...
I don't mean coding, but on a more fundamental and physical level. What happens in all the hardware of a computer that allows it to do all that it does and display it on your screen? Essentially, what happens in a computer that allows it to tell you that 1+1=2.
I wasn't sure where to put...
Hi all. Can anyone please recommend me a good undergraduate level Condensed Matter Physics book that has a number of examples and concise explanations rather than walls of texts? It should cover typical topics such as scattering, magnetism etc. I apologize if this may strike a nerve with...
I am an aspiring mathemarician and wanted to know algebra/trig books with rigor. I have sullivan pre cal/ stewart/mcguie and these are extremely easy books. I enjoy the sullivan book because of its wide range of topics( introduction to vectors) but the exercises are extremely easy.

I hated hated my Phyiscs textbook Fundamental Physics. I'm going to have to take charge of my own education now and just rely not that book. Does anyone here know of any book Physics Books/Text Books that are essential for for one to be Phycisist ? I mean, I found Feynman's Lectures -- books of...
So I'm in my first year of my apprenticeship and my trade is control and instrumentation. But the first year of the course consists of electronics and I'm looking for some recommended books.
Before I begin, I apologize for any bad English, it isn't my first language.
I'm a medical student who didn't do any mathematics for 3 years. However, after finding out the "plug 'n chug" approach isn't really what mathematics is about, I became interested in learning it from the basics all...
Not sure what section to put this in, so I'll put it here. Are there any good books on string theory that are good for someone who is a bit more than a layman (i.e. no extremely superficial, dumbed-down stuff), but still doesn't know more than single variable calculus and Newtonian mechanics?
I am studying for the mechanics modules of A level mathematics under EdExcel. So far the books seemingly published to support the specifications aren't doing a very good job.The examples in the books don't tell the students how to solve problems in the exercises, which is a sheer let down.I want...
Hello, I'm a first year Physics student. I've decided to take on mathematical methods and be as thorough with it as I possibly can.
