Another day spend on the resistor color code.

It seems like many of these kids simply do not hear what is said at the front of the room. I must explain the code system to each student. Not exactly true there were 2 or 3 out of 30 who seemed to get it from the start. Since there are over 30 students in the class it is not easy to give individual help to each individual.

What is it with these kids? I don't think I am seeing the worst, but a cross section of the population. There are a number who just do not care, they seem to have no interest. Perhaps the problem is mine I have always been fascinated by electronics and was eager to learn. The stuff we are talking about is a very big part of everyday life here in the US, how can they not be curious?

    This reminds me of my experiences with my niece. I was about 21, taking a lot of oceanography and marine biology in college. I took her to an almost magical cove near my parent's house, in Mendocino County, California. She was 7 or 8. I showed her things, turned over rocks to find crabs and such, point out animals that look like rocks...as long as I was talking, she would show mild interest. When I stopped talking, she went into a 100-mile stare, clearly not sure of what she should be doing.

    She's now mom of 3 kids, never married, last I heard she was working at Dairy Queen.

    Is there something in our water these days?

    Both parents are very busy nowadays and the kids just watch TV. The tool addictive and designed to turn kids in quasi-intelectual-vegetables. Moreover college is outrageously expensive, saffed with incompetent carreerists and the kids have plenty of examples of dropouts who did well. Go figure...
