If you are new to Physics Forums and want to post a question, you need to start a new forum discussion thread, known simply as a "thread". To do that, read the following instructions . . . and be sure to read the part at the end if your question is related to schoolwork or to solving any textbook-style problem, even if it's for independent study.

How to start a forum discussion thread.

To post a question -- or to start any new discussion at Physics Forums -- you first have to be viewing a subforum page showing a list of existing discussion threads. You can find a list of subforums at our main page, http://www.physicsforums.com

Once you are at a subforum, simply click on the New Topic button near the upper left area of the page, just above the words "Threads in Forum":
.

If your question is related to schoolwork or to solving any textbook-style problem:

(1) it should be posted in one of the subject areas here:
. . . . . . http://www.physicsforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=152

and (2) you will need to follow the instructions that appear when you post your question.
_____

Though it should go without saying, I will part with the following request. Please do not post your question as a blog entry*, do not post it as a library entry*, do not post your question on your profile page or the profile page of another member, and do not use the forum's private message feature to ask your question.

*If you post your question as a blog or library entry, nobody will even see it unless it is approved by a forum moderator. And rather than being approved by a forum moderator, it is quite likely that it will simply be deleted.
