When I was in kindergarten a local author lady came to our class to read us a book she had written.
The story was about a little boy whose parents were going away on a long trip. Before they left, they gave him a box of crackers. His mom told him, "Eat one cracker every day, and when the box is empty, Daddy and I will be home."
So his parents left, and the little boy obediently ate his single cracker every day. As the weeks went by, he began to miss his mom and dad very much. One day, he missed them so much, that he ate all of the rest of the crackers, hoping that would bring them home right away.
Within minutes, his parents came through the door. The little boy was overjoyed, and he ran to hug them. His mom and dad hugged him back, but then with a disappointed look, they let go, and then stepped backwards toward the door.
"I'm sorry," they said, "but because you disobeyed, and ate all the crackers, now we must leave forever."
The parents turned and walked away, and the little boy never saw them again.

Isn't that a pretty messed up story to tell little kids? I wonder if that lady ever got her book published.
