haikus

Posted Oct20-09 at 01:21 AM by Math Is Hard

I was just reminiscing about an old PF haiku thread:
http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=82223

I submitted a creepy haiku:

Quote:

midnight now, can't sleep
make-up smeared eyes glint at me.
clown at my window.
and Zooby came back with such a great response:

Quote:
Greasepaint prints on glass,
red sponge nose pressed flat on glass?
Baseball bat should work.
Had me in stitches....

Petition to try Cheyenne Cherry as an adult

If you're reading this, it is probably because you know me. And since you know me, you know how much I love animals. So you know how much cruelty to animals breaks my heart. I read about a particularly vicious case of a kitten being tortured and killed recently. The young woman who did this was 17, and could get off with a slap on the wrist because of her age. A petition is gathering signatures asking for her to be tried as an adult. I signed it. I hope it will help.

overheard in la la land

I always wanted to collect something. Like stamps or porcelain hippos. I never found quite the right item, though, until recently. I've started collecting peculiar sentences that I overhear from strangers. The more ambiguous and weird, the better. Here's two eavesdrops that I snared this week (on different days).

Girl to guy: "You look 58% sexier than you did yesterday."

Guy to girl: "Can you help me with 'cheese'?"

Maybe I will collect...

Flap, flap, flap... tap, tap, tap

Last weekend I was sitting at my computer working away, when I heard a noise on my patio..
"Flap, flap, flap"... then... "tap, tap, tap"... someone was tapping on my screen door. I turned to see who was there, and heard "caw, caw".

I was delighted to see that it was not someone selling candy, or religion, but two small darkly-clad visitors of the corvid persuasion. They have an interesting language, these feathered folk, in which simple syllables...

One of the funniest songs I've ever heard:

The Sunday morning Chik-fil-A jonez can be pretty intense, as some of you know.
