The purpose this lab was to measure the normal and frictional forces acting upon an object starting and already in motion, to calculate Us and Uk using numbers, compare and contrast Us and Uk. Analyze the kinectic friction results, and estimate the angle where sliding will begin for an object on an inclined plane. Overall theses goals were accomplished when look at the tables and the low percentage of error.

Throughout the lab the mass of the block was weighed and resulted in 2.45N, which represents Fn(N). The static friction (Fs) was also measured and the avg. out come was 1.2N. In addition, to these measurements Ff was likewise measured and resulted in .50N.And with all this information it opened the door to calculate both the coefficient of kinetic and static friction, which the results are shown in Data section 3. Taking this information in comparison to the actual known numbers, the results were almost perfect, thus showing they were reasonable solutions. Having this in mind, the angle at which the block began to slide down the incline plane was obtained.

*NOTE: THIS IS SOMETHING MOST TEACHERS REQUIRE AND EVEN IF THEY DON’T IT IS IMPORTANT SO THAT YOU TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHAT YOUR POSSIBLE SOUCRE OF ERRORS AND FORBID IT FROM HAPPENING TO YOU AGAIN.

In this lab, it was difficult to record the exact angle in which the block began to slide, thus may have causing an alteration of the results, for the section only though. But what may have been the biggest source of error throughout the lab , was maintaining a constant pull force on the string the was tied to the block, this would have then possibly caused the results to vary, and the recording of the Fs and Ff may also have been wrong due to this as well. But it is believed that this producer conducted in this lab are correct due to the low percent error results, thus meaning that the data is accurate and sufficient and overall the lab was successful in accomplishing it’s goal.
