New Planet
BBC News; The Corot space mission, who's purpose is to search for earth-like planets that may be habitable, has discovered it's first planet. The new planet, dubbed "Corot-exo-1b", is larger than Jupiter, but believed to be of similiar structure. Dr Suzanne Aigrain of Exeter University in the UK commented to the BBC that
<blockquote>
"It's a giant planet of similar basic structure to Jupiter, but bigger; it is about 1.3 times more massive than Jupiter and has approximately 1.5 to 1.8 times the radius. It's a lot closer to its star, which is quite similar to our Sun, and it orbits it every 1.5 days."
</blockquote>
The space probe can also carry out asteroseismological measurements to determine the age and composition of the stars it observes.

Corot is a co-operative project between the French space agency Cnes and international partners Esa (European Space Agency), Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Germany and Spain.
