Lorentz Gauge
|
Definition/Summary
|
This is a very common mis-spelling of Lorenz Gauge.
The Lorenz Gauge was invented by the Danish physicist Ludvig Lorenz (1829-1891).
It has nothing to do with the Dutch physicist Hendrik Lorentz (1853–1928).
There is no Lorentz Gauge. |

Curiously, their names are now linked by their independent discovery of an equation relating the refractive index of a substance to its polarizability!
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorentz–Lorenz_equation … The Lorentz–Lorenz equation is named after the Danish mathematician and scientist Ludvig Lorenz, who published it in 1869, and the Dutch physicist Hendrik Lorentz, who discovered it independently in 1878. |
